Ductile iron round bar is available in 4 grades which are 65-45-12, 80-55-06,100-70-03, and SSDI. Dura-Bar Ductile 100-70-03 is typically a non-stock grade but can be ordered in volume quantities. Please contact Industrial Tube & Steel Corporation for your inquiry.
Ductile iron round bar offers high strength and superior machinability at an overall affordable price point. A continuous cast iron that’s often used as an alternative to low-to-medium plain carbon steels, this material has the following characteristics:
Ductile iron round bar is stocked in an assortment of sizes, from 1.250" diameter to 26.560" diameter. As-cast round bars are made to clean up at the nominal size. In other words, if you are ordering a 6” diameter bar, that means it’s guaranteed to clean up and finish to 6” diameter. Additional stock is added to allow for out-of-round and normal imperfections in the as-cast surface. For applications with demanding tolerances, centerless grinding and turning services are available.
Standard bar lengths are 72" and 144”, but custom lengths are available upon request. Our industry-leading automatic equipment allows us to cut raw material to specified dimensions quickly and precisely. See Dura Bar Iron Stock Allowance & Guaranteed Clean-Up Sizes for specific sizes.
Industrial Tube & Steel carries a selection of ductile iron round bar to suit any project. This material is produced to meet ASTM A536 specification standards, and is available in the following grades:
65-45-12 grade ductile iron contains nodular graphite in a matrix of ferrite with small amounts of pearlite. The ferritic structure gives excellent machinability with good surface finishes along with optimal impact strengths, fatigue properties, electrical conductivity and high magnetic permeability. This iron has approximately the same tensile and yield strengths as AISI 1020 steel in the as-rolled condition.
80-55-06 grade ductile iron contains nodular graphite in a matrix of ferrite and pearlite. The pearlite-and-ferrite structure provides higher wear resistance and strength when compared to a ferritic grade of ductile iron. This material is readily machinable with good surface finishes. Tensile and yield strengths are similar to AISI 1040 steel in the as-rolled condition.
100-70-03 ductile iron combines nodular graphite in a matrix of pearlite with a small amount of ferrite. It's produced in a variety of sizes and shapes and is often used in place of plain carbon steel. Its machinability is similar to carbon steel, which can lower costs of parts requiring extensive machining.
SSDI (Solution Strengthen Ductile Iron) is a grade of ductile iron that combines the elevated mechanical strengths of a pearlitic ductile iron with the machinability advantages of a ferritic ductile iron. It’s an attractive grade of ductile iron for the design and manufacture of metal components.
Produced with a graphite-and-ferritic microstructure, ductile iron round bar provides the same free machining benefits of lead without its machining and waste disposal problems. Commonly used in the manufacture of finished products, ductile iron round bar is used in projects across an array of industries including oil & gas, fluid handling and machinery. Some common components in these industries include:
