Alloy Round Mechanical Tubing

4140/42 and 4130 Mechanical Tubing are medium carbon alloy grades, which are widely used for many general-purpose applications that require high tensile strength and toughness. The addition of chromium and molybdenum as alloying elements, combined with heat treatment, provides the combined advantage of hardness, ductility, and strength.

4140 Meets ASTM A519 specifications and tolerances
4130 Meets ASTM A513 Type 5(DOM) or A519 (CDS) specifications and tolerances

Stocked Size Range

  • (4130): 0.250” – 3.250” OD; 0.035” – 0.313” wall thickness
  • (4140): 3.000” – 19.000” OD; 0.500” – 3.000” wall thickness
  • Stocked in 17.000’ - 24.000’ random lengths (Cut to Length available)

Manufacturing Process

Depending on the grade and type, alloy tubing is either produced per ASTM A513 Type 5 or ASTM A519 industry standards.  See CDS, HRS, or DOM manufacturing processes per the specific type and specification for more information.
